Even the most die-hard fans usually admit this Suicide squad It’s a mess. This makes sense when, after the fact, we hear stories about the pioneer You enter the studioAnd multiple modifications, and all kinds of interference. However, one important point is that it introduced us to Margot Robbie’s portrayal of Harley Quinn.
A frenetic blast of chaotic energy as part of a band, she returns to try her hand at directing a film herself directed by Cathy Yan. Birds of Prey: And the Fantastic Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. It’s a good time. Goofy and ridiculous, fast-paced and fun, Birds of prey Leaning more strongly than expected to the R rating. All to its advantage.
Harley Quinn needs to right herself
In the wake of previous events, Harley Quinn needs to right herself. A big part of this means cutting ties with her old lover, the Joker. Let’s just say, she may not have been emotionally equipped to handle a breakup in a rational, healthy way, and her way of dealing with self-doubt, letdown, and rejection goes spectacularly off the rails.
One of the main obstacles to this liberation is that Harley no longer enjoys the protection afforded by her association with Mr. J. As a result, many, many, many parties harmed by it over the years come out of the woodwork to seek a place of revenge. Chief among these are crime boss Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor), also known as Black Mask, and his cheerfully sadistic friend/life partner Victor Zsasz (Chris Messina).
Formation of birds of prey
Through a complex series of events and a desire for self-preservation, Harley forges an uneasy alliance with a crew of other women including Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Dinah Lance (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and a crew of other women. Known as Black Canary, young pickpocket Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco).
plot Birds of prey Acts as a swirling mass to push these women together. Each one of them has been damaged and marginalized in her own way. No one views Harley as just a friend to be forgiven. Montoya She starts out as a cop, but is repeatedly passed over for promotion, her ideas are ignored or stolen by the men around her, and she is never seen as an equal. A lost foster child and forgotten by the system, Cassandra does what she must to survive. Trapped in a thankless job, Dinah’s bosses only use her for what they can. Huntress has her own reasons for revenge and problems with people who take her seriously.
Great shows worth watching
Their chemistry is both antagonistic and brotherly at the same time as it has happened over time Birds of prey They need to work together. Harley is troubled and obsessive, but also surprisingly serious and honest, with an undying love for breakfast sandwiches. Ruby He has an absolute blast in front of the photo.
Montoya is a tough, hackneyed detective, but Perez brings to the surface a subtle world-weariness and palpable frustration with the glass ceiling. Pascoe and Smollett-Bell are strong and funny. Everyone gets enough to do, and no one feels short-changed or short-changed.
However, as great as others are, Winsted He gets the MVP award. Huntress may be a leather-clad badass who roams the city on a motorcycle, but she’s also dealing with deep trauma that has left her fueled by rage and emotionally stunted. She’s extremely awkward, and her social ineptitude leads to some of the best parts of the film.
McGregor and Messina are the perfect villains and characters, managing to be both comedic and authentically terrifying at the same time. McGregor immerses himself in the world of a scene-chewing villain, both flamboyant and blood-curdling. Messina plays Zsasz almost like a Harley – he’ll peel your face and laugh with childish glee the entire time. The pair have a wonderful dynamic, power-hungry and evil, but also serious and romantic.
Where birds of prey go wrong
Birds of prey It has a few narrative hiccups. Often too early, Christina HodsonThe script pulls the “just a minute, let’s back up” trick to introduce the key players. Although it was a bit difficult at first, that thankfully dissipates after the first chapter.
From there, the film does a solid job of balancing the different threads and arcs, as we never lose sight of anyone for any significant stretch. Even speed bumps are relatively minor, and the fast pace and fast tempo carry us without faltering.
Behind the scenes of John Wick’s fight in the level?
The verb is in bird of prey Strong, solid, and better than most superhero movies at a fraction of the budget of its counterparts. Since the film doesn’t generally deal with powerful people, it’s also one of the most grounded and realistic DC films.
Yan brought in a team from 87eleven Action Design, the company founded by Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the filmmakers behind John Wickamong many other notable action films, and it shows. As a result, the elaborate battle sequences are meticulously staged and tightly choreographed.
Since it’s a genre of action more grounded in reality, these scenes never devolve into a muddy, CGI-heavy jumble where objects flail and look like cut scenes from video games – a problem that has plagued many superhero films. Even when the climatic chase takes things to insane levels, there’s still an edge of realism and practicality that sells their fantasy world. Birds of prey More than that.
Rated R and proud
Thanks to the R rating, Birds of prey Never shy away from violence or vulgarity. Yan and company balance a bubbly pop aesthetic with visceral brutality. They’re certainly not afraid to break a few bones or make a dirty joke, which only adds to the party.
Not every film has to come from the same mold or play out like the next chapter in a larger story. There is room for darkness and trouble, such as Batman v Supermanas well as the insect scene Aquaman. We can have a tinge of gray one time and an eye-catching blast of Day-Glo the next, and each has its place with stories that fit the property’s strengths.
This is what Birds of Prey does best, it knows what it’s about and it does it. Harley is vulgar and violent but also has a doctorate, a duality that shines through. This is a story of broken hearts and broken bones, a story of female friendship and bonding through shared struggles, mad work and hard connection. Most of all, it’s a good time.
