The world press enters a new era Aitrend

Dear Global Press readers,

When Global Press was founded 18 years ago, its goal was to shine a light on the many voices that were missing around the world in the mainstream media market by employing female reporters to cover their own countries.

That’s why I first joined Global Press in 2013. We’re proud to be a leader in creating jobs for local journalists who report on their own communities with dignity and accuracy.

Krista Karch, editor-in-chief of Global Press

I recently returned to Global Press as editor-in-chief after a five-year hiatus. Even if our goal remains the same, we live it a little differently.

The world is changing, and so are we. Global Press would not serve our readers well if we stayed the same. This shift has challenged our news organization to move beyond old ways of thinking. But it also represents a new era – one in which Global Press journalism will move away from the margins of the mainstream media market and into the center stage.

Global Press has operated in remote, conflict-ridden and largely misunderstood places for decades. We will continue to cover many of these locations, but we are also adding new countries of coverage. We will soon begin recruiting in Nigeria, Ukraine, Brazil and many other locations, enhancing our deeply collaborative and interconnected global coverage.

We have updated our editorial strategy to emphasize investigative and explanatory global coverage in three main areas: civil liberties, global health and the environment. Our coverage will start in the places where our journalists live, but expand to connect the dots of local news with what’s happening globally.

“The world is changing, and so are we. Global Press would not serve our readers well if we stayed the same.”

There is still a big change. We are launching two-year full-time programs reporting scholarships for women journalists in new coverage countries. These fellows will lead the media coverage we produce as part of our new modelwhile benefiting from advanced training in journalism. Additionally, we will continue to employ staff in our current countries of coverage as journalists in residence. And we’re launching new certificate programs to train even more women journalists around the world to elevate their expertise in news coverage. Graduates of the program can join the GP Reporting Network to contribute to our global reporting. We remain committed, as always, to creating exceptional journalism jobs for women everywhere.

We do this for you, our readers. In the coming months, look for new newsletters and other ways to participate in our work. We are very grateful for your support over the years. Keep us in your feed and spread the word about the journalism we publish. Join us as we continue to reinvent international news coverage.
