Last week I told you about A Valnet’s cease and desist letter, in which they demanded silence. Valnet is the parent company of sites like Screen Rant, Game Rant, Collider, Movie Web, and CBR. That letter (which can be read in full here) Threatening legal action unless I comply with their demands to remove posts mentioning their company and its websites.
Below are two examples of data that Valnet is requesting to be removed. They cite many other examples in their complete cease and desist letter.
My attorney has now drafted a response, which we have sent to Valnet’s legal board. Our response clearly states that we believe Valnet’s assertions are “frivolous” as the posts in question are protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.
We believe the letter from Valnet’s legal board is a clear attempt to silence open dialogue about the business practices of their company and associated media entities like Screen Rant.
“The only thing that is ‘absolutely clear’ is that Mr. Tyler shared his opinions and information he collected online. It is also clear that your letter is an attempt to silence Mr. Tyler, and prevent open dialogue about Valnet’s business practices in the marketplace of ideas.”
I will not delete my posts, which all contain opinions and other protected speech. I fully affirm my right and the right of all independent publishers and journalists to freely express opinions and share facts about Valnet or any of its media properties.
It remains to be seen how Valnet will respond to this refusal to comply with its demands.
The full response sent to Valnet’s legal board is included below.
