Sister Wives star Robyn Brown finds excuses for Kody Brown this sometimes seems to reflect how she reacted to her father’s behavior, which she witnessed as a child. So she probably learned this behavior long before the TLC series was on the drawing board.
Robyn rarely talks about her upbringing. But from what little she’s shared about her childhood, she seems to use it to explain why she behaves one way or another today. What she witnessed with her father as a child still seems to seep into the excuses she offers for Kody today.

Sister Wives Robyn Brown offers excuses to Kody Brown when he steps out of line. The fourth wife in the now-defunct polygamous marriage treats Kody Brown with great caution at times, especially when she considers him fragile.
Many of his adult children from his ex-wives still find themselves separated from their father. But fans say Robyn always seems to find an excuse for Kody when he fails as a father figure.
Although Robyn urged Kody to work things out with his kids, Sister Wives screen, she still does not blame him for their distance. Instead, she cites her sadness over her failed marriages as the basis for the breakdown of relationships with her children.
Robyn’s apology for Kody mirrors her apology for her father?
Robyn Brown was a Sister Wives celebrity for over a decade now. During this period, she said things and even wrote a book. It seems like even Robyn might forget some of the things she said.
Several years ago, the Sister Wives adults wrote a bestseller. There’s a lot buried in these pages that could explain what we see on screen today. A good example is how Robyn views her father. First, Robyn Brown’s biological father is Robert Marck, a man little known among fans of the series.
Her mother, Alice Fullmer, divorced Marck and married Paul Sullivan when Robyn was very young. Robyn Brown had little interaction with her biological father, but her stepfather became a father figure to her. So, when we talk about his father on the Sister Wives show, she usually refers to Paul Sullivan, who died in 2022.
He’s the father we saw at her wedding to Kody and the father who witnessed Solomon Brown’s birth. But even though she adored this man, she still needed to make excuses for him regarding certain painful situations from her childhood. Just like she does for her husband today.
Sister Wives: Pain and Apologies Rooted in Her Past
A lot Sister Wives fans have read the book that Kody Brown and his four wives wrote together at the height of their popularity. Robyn talks about how growing up, her polygamous family rolled with the punches. Because his mother was his father’s second wife, Robyn, his mother, and his siblings made up his hidden family.
But she talks about an incident that caused pain when she was a child when she went to a park with her father, mother and biological siblings. Once there, his father spotted a colleague. Since his first wife and biological children were part of his public family, he could not be seen with Robyn’s mother and her children.
So he walked away and ignored them. Although Robyn Brown wrote that “this hurt me terribly,” she understood why her father needed to do this. Robyn lived her childhood with her father, without introducing her mother as his wife.
Instead, she was introduced as her father’s “sister” or “ex-wife” with whom he remained cordial. So, making excuses for Kody Brown probably comes naturally to him. From what Robyn Brown said, her mother always smoothed things over for her by giving her even more excuses as to why they couldn’t be recognized outside of their home.
So you could say that Robyn’s father installed these buttons for his wife and Robyn Brown. Those buttons seem to stay in place today, and they give Robyn Brown a way to have an apology at her fingertips.
But, instead of growing out of this behavior, Robyn Brown perpetuates this excuse today as an adult. So, Kody Brown still pushes these buttons today, likely installed by his father years before he appeared on the TLC series.
