Prolific South Africa spinner Heinrich Klaassen was fined 15% of his match fee for “kicking the stumps” for showing his disappointment after being dismissed by spinner Naseem Shah during the second ODI against Pakistan.
According to a statement issued by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the right-handed batsman committed a level one breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.
One demerit point was also added to his disciplinary record for breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Staff, which relates to “misuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an international match”.
Klaassen was an outstanding performer for the home team, scoring a brave 97 off 74 balls as South Africa faced a tough chase of 330 balls.
He batted right to the end and was the last wicket to fall in the 43rd over but with little support at the other end, the Proteas fell by 81 runs.
The statement said that a frustrated Klaassen was dealt a blow after his dismissal, which led to penalties being imposed by match referee Richie Richardson.
For Pakistan, Babar Azam and skipper Mohammad Rizwan set the stage for a huge total with half-centuries each. However, it was Kamran Ghulam’s explosive 32-ball 63 that provided the late lead, propelling the visitors to a remarkable score.
Shaheen was the standout bowler for the Green Shirts, with his returning match figures being 4/47, followed by right-arm fast-armer Shah, who took 3/37 in 8.3 overs. Abrar Ahmed played a supporting role in Faruti Raas.
Pakistan have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series, with the final ODI scheduled to be played in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 22.
