KUALA LUMPUR: India beat Bangladesh by 41 runs to win the inaugural Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup at Baymas Oval on Sunday.

Opening batsman Gongadi Trisha played a pivotal role in India’s crushing win, scoring a well-crafted half-century to anchor the innings.

India, who batted first, set a competitive total of 117/7 in their allotted 20 overs, with Trisha leading the charge.

After a shaky start at 25/2, the right-handed opener steadied the ship, finishing with 52 runs off 47 balls, including five fours and two sixes. Her crucial 41-run partnership with skipper Nikki Prasad, who contributed 12 runs, propelled the team forward.

After her dismissal, Mithila Vinod took over the reins of India’s batting charge and added valuable runs in the backfield with 12 balls and 17.

Ferjana Ismin was Bangladesh’s outstanding bowler, scoring impressive bowling figures of 4/31 in four overs, while Nishita Akter Nishi scored a brace.

In response, the Bangladesh batting unit were posted for 76 in 18.3 overs, thus succumbing to a tough defeat in the high-stakes encounter.

Middle-order batsman Juwiria Ferdous remained the team’s top scorer with 30 fours and 22, followed by opener Fahumida Chuya, who made 18 off 24 deliveries.

Besides them, none of the Bangladesh batsmen could compile double figures, highlighting their struggle against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Ayushi Shukla was the pick of the Indian bowlers, taking three wickets for just 17 runs in 3.3 overs, while Sonam Yadav and Parunika Sisodia took a wicket each.

Due to her match-winning knockout, Jongadi Trisha was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2024 AFC U-19 Women’s Cup Final.
