KARACHI: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will wait for medical reports from doctors in London before taking a decision on including top-order pacer Saim Ayyub in the provisional Pakistan squad for next month’s Cricket Champions Trophy.

Ayoub, who fractured his ankle during the opening day of the Cape Town Test against South Africa, was initially ruled out for six weeks.

The PCB then sent the 22-year-old to the UK for specialist treatment and further assessment.

On Wednesday, Ayoub underwent an initial assessment by Dr Lucky Jeyaseelan, a consultant trauma and orthopedic foot and ankle surgeon in London. He was accompanied by Pakistani national team assistant coach Azhar Mahmood.

Sources familiar with the matter said that a second session with Dr. David is scheduled for Thursday Geographic News.

The source said: “The decision to include Ayoub in the Champions Cup squad will depend on doctors’ reports from the United Kingdom.”

Earlier, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reiterated the board’s commitment to providing world-class medical care to Ayub, describing him as an asset to Pakistan cricket.

Naqvi also personally called Ayub to check on his condition and expressed his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery.

He expressed the importance of providing the necessary care, stressing that Ayoub will be examined by well-known orthopedic specialists in London.

The injury occurred while playing on the opening day of the second men’s cricket test against South Africa at Newlands on Friday.

While trying to recover the ball, Ayoub lost his balance and stumbled backwards, which led to his injury.
