Williamson says those reporting illness are primarily students on campus, but some living outside of school would also be affected.

Norovirus is highly contagious and often causes gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the lining of the stomach and intestines that can lead to nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.

Williamson adds that those who were affected appear to be recovering quickly and well.

A statement posted on the university’s website says the school has stepped up cleaning of frequently touched surfaces and temporarily stopped offering large-scale social programs for residence communities to help stop the spread of any illness.
