The owner of the St Pancras de London station says that he hopes to have international train services in more European countries, including Germany and Switzerland.
In order to obtain more passengers to use the station, London St Pancras Highpeed says that it wants to encourage “new and existing train operators” to open new routes.
It aims to increase the capacity to travel through the channel of 1,800 passengers per hour to almost 5,000 passengers per hour.
London St Pancras Highpeed and their French counterparts, Getlink, signed a memorandum of understanding to undertake to extend rail connectivity.
Getlink believes that there is a potential for services to open between London and locations such as Bordeaux, Cologne, Frankfurt, Geneva, Marseille and Zurich.
The new potential routes would end the need for passengers to change trains.
No calendar for such extensions have been revealed.
Eurostar Currently contains a monopoly in the management of passenger services via the chain tunnel, which opened in 1994.
Passengers can use Eurostar services to get to the pairs and Brussels as well as seasonal ski trains for the French Alps.
Earlier this month, the company also resumed direct services from London to Amsterdam After an eight-month hold-up, when a new terminal was built in the Netherlands.
But the Spanish start-up Evolyn and the Virgin group by Sir Richard Branson by Sir Richard Branson are developing proposals to launch rival services.
Robert Sinclair, managing director of Highpeed, said that the company will actively work with Getlink to “encourage new and existing train operators to extend the capacity and launch new destinations unlocking the potential of a fully connected Europe”.
He added that he wanted Rail to be “the favorite option to travel to Europe”.
