Paris: FIFA announced that the teams competing in the expanded World Cup this year in the United States will share a record amount of one billion dollars of the prize money.
This number is much more than the prize money provided either for the last World Cup for men or women.
The Global Football Authority provided some details about financing the first edition of the 32 teams championship, which will take place every four years, but it has signed the main broadcaster and sponsors in recent weeks.
In a statement confirming the prize money offered, FIFA said it is expected to achieve two billion dollars in the expanded World Cup. It also confirmed that the female edition will be held from 2028.
“The FIFA World Cup FIFA will not only be the football summit of the club, but will also be a vivid demonstration of solidarity that will benefit clubs on a large scale that no other competition has ever.”
“All revenues resulting from the tournament will be distributed to the participating clubs and through the club’s solidarity all over the world, as FIFA will not maintain one dollar.”
The British DAZN broadcasting service was awarded the exclusive global rights of the tournament, which will be held from June 14 to July 13, in December. A source close to the negotiations said that the contract is of about one billion euros ($ 1.05 billion).
FIFA has also signed care contracts with Coca-Cola, Bank of America, Electronics Brand Horeness, and Belgian Brewers AB Inbev.
In comparison, the total Men’s World Cup Awards in Qatar amounted to 440 million dollars, while the Women’s World Cup was 2023 in New Zealand and Australia, $ 110 million.
The Champions League will pay this season, with a new coordination of 36-clubs, a total of 2.47 billion euros ($ 2.66 billion) for the relevant clubs.
Wide -scale criticism of the welfare of the player
FIFA’s expansion in the championship has been met with widespread criticism, especially in Europe, which is largely due to concerns about the welfare of the player.
The FIFPro and the European League of European Championships filed a complaint to the European Commission in October against FIFA, accusing it of misuse of its dominant position through the acquisition of the calendar.
The UEFA Champions League has also been expanded this season, and some players, including Ballon d’or Rodri and Liverpool, Virgil Van Dick, have sparked a hunger strike.
“I think we are about to do so. I think if I asked any player, I will say the same thing,” said Rodri when asked in September if there was a hunger strike, shortly before an injury at the end of the season.
“Rodri’s opinion is not or anything else. I think it’s public opinion for the players.”
The tournament will include 12 teams from Europe and six South America and four each of Asia, Africa, North and Central America.
Auckland City and Lionel Messi between Miami complete the squad.
Not every reaction was negative, as Paris coach Luis Enrique wants to “everyone” to play.
“Once every four years, there is this new and very exciting competition. Everyone wants to go to the club’s World Cup,” said last year.
The tournament will be held in 12 places in 11 cities in the United States, with the final at the Metlife Stadium in New Jersey, which will also host the 2026 World Cup final.
