The London Marathon 2025 set a new global record for a number of viewers, with 56640 contestants finishing the 26.2 miles in spite of the hot conditions.
The previous record number exceeded the 55,646 set by the New York Marathon in November.
Hugh Barrar, CEO of London Marathon’s events, said he hoped to inspire the greatest participation in the future.
“The London Marathon was the most popular in terms of voting entries, with 840318 people applying for the 2025 race,” said Braisher.
“It is also the largest annual donation event for one day, as more than 1.3 billion pounds of charity has been collected since 1981.”
This year’s polling applications numbers had already crashed the previous world record, with 578,304 people submitted a request for a 2024 race.
Among the UK applicants, 49 % of women, and the organizers indicated a 105 % increase in requests from people between the ages of 20 and 29.
On the competitive front, Tigst Assice from Ethiopia won victory in the elite of women’s race, set a global record for the women’s field only.
Sebastian Soy from Kenya won the men’s title.
It was also a repeated Swiss victory in the wheelchair races, as Catherine Debruner crashed its own record of the women’s event and Marcel Hang called his seventh victory in the London Marathon in the men’s category.
In addition to the weekend celebrations, more than 15,000 young athletes participated in the Mini London Marathon on Saturday, which represents the largest version of the youth event since it started in 1986.
