Karachi: The Pakistani Boredom and Snooker Society (PBSA) appealed to the federal government to issue long, s handed grants, warning that the country’s participation in the upcoming international events is at risk due to a severe financial crisis.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, PBSA said it had not received any financial assistance from the Pakistani Sports Council since July 2024, despite the success of the national team on the world stage, including the gold medal in the world’s SNOKER Championship in Doha in Doha in November 2024.
The statement said, “The association is just around the corner to start its annual season for the fiscal year 2025-2026 with a critical financial situation,” the statement said.
He added that PBSA was on Pakistan’s participation in four international events over the past year, including tournaments in Mongolia, Qatar, Sri Lanka and the world championship.
Quoting continuous financial restrictions, PBSA said it may not be able to send its players to the main international events that line this season, including the Asian team and 6 red championships in Sri Lanka later this month, the Commonwealth Championship in Mauritius in July, and the world games in China this August.
The statement warned: “Because of the current prevailing situation, PBSA expects the upcoming times to meet its international obligations for 2025-2026,” as the challenge of maintaining both local departments and honesty operations highlighted.
PBSA stressed that despite the exceptional offers of players, it is still awaiting the issuance of special grants to cover the costs of international participation. The Federal Minister for Coordination between provinces (IPC) urged to intervene and facilitate the immediate release of funds.
“This will enable the association to start the current Snoker season with a fixed commitment to increasing the promotion of the Snowker game in Pakistan,” PBSA said.
