The daughter of a post office victim told Sky News that she had undergone “dark suicide thoughts” in the years following her flight accused.
Kate Burrows was 14 when her mother, Elaine Hood, was continued and sentenced later in 2003.
The first public inquiry report on the post office – examining the repair and “human impact” of the scandal – should be published today.
“I have suffered from panic attacks of about 14, 15 years old, and I still have them to date,” said Kate.
“I have entered and out of therapy for what looks like most of my adult life and that is absolutely due to (what happened).”
Kate, as well as others, helped to set up the lost chances chances, supporting the children of post office victims. She hopes that the investigation will recognize their suffering.
“It is important that our voices are heard,” she said. “Not only in the report, but in law in fact.
“And then perhaps it would be a means of deterrence for any future concealment, that it is not only the only person that it is the whole family (affected).”
His sister, Rebecca Richards, who was 18 when their mother was accused, described how a food disorder has “increased” after what happened.
“When my mother was going through everything, my only control of this situation was the food I put in my body,” she said.
She also said that seeing her mother at court when she was condemned “would remain with me forever”.
“The two investigators were seated in front of my father and I, sneering and saying” we have this one “.
“To look at my mom in the handcuffed quays at a guard … not knowing if she was going to go home … it’s the most remarkable memory for me.”
The sisters hope that the investigation conclusions will push Fujitsu to keep a promise they made almost a year ago – to try to help the children of the victims.
Last summer, Kate met the European boss of the company, Paul Patterson, who said he would examine the means to support the lost chances.
Despite his appearance in the investigation in November of last year and saying that he would not “remain silent” on the issue, Kate said that there was little movement in terms of support.
“It is really a line of” We are going to wait for the end of the investigation report to decide, “she said.
“But Mr. Patterson met us in person, looked at us in the eyes, and we shared the most deeply personal stories and he said that we will do something … They had to make a difference.”
Fujitsu, who developed the defective horizon software, said he was in discussion with the government concerning a contribution to remuneration.
The investigation will plunge in detail on repair plans, including four, three controlled by the government and one by the post office.
The victims of the scandal say that they hope that Sir Wyn Williams, president of the investigation, will recommend that the government and the post office be withdrawn from reparation plans because thousands of attention are still waiting for a complete and fair repair.
A spokesperson for the Department of Affairs and Commerce said they were “grateful” for the work of the survey, describing “immeasurable suffering” that the victims suffered and claiming that the government had “quadrupled the total amount paid to the posts assigned”, with more than 1 billion pounds Sterling having been paid to thousands of applicants.
