The US Consumer Product Safety Commission remembers around 5 million pools above the soil linked to the death of nine children in the past two decades.
The Federal Agency said in a reminder notice That the swimming pools, which have been manufactured in China and sold by several American sellers, have a compression strap along the outside which can allow children to access and drown. Children can enter the pool even when the scale is removed, said the CPSC.
Children who drowned were between 22 months and 3 years old, according to the agency. Deaths took place between 2007 and 2002 in California, Texas, Florida, Michigan, Wisconsin and Missouri. The CPSC said it was also aware of three separate cases when children had access to the pools recalled using the compression strap.

The swimming pools, which measure 48 inches high and higher, have been sold by outdoor leisure companies Bestway, Intex and Polygroup since 2002 in retail stores in the United States, including Amazon.com, Lowe’s, Target and Walmart, among others. More than 250,000 have also been sold in Canada. They vary in prices between $ 400 and more than $ 1,000, according to the CPSC.
In a statement to CBS Moneywatch, a spokesperson for Bestway, Intex and Polygroup said that the three companies had started working with the CPSC in 2023 to update the safety standard for the pools above the ground. The updated standard, finalized in May 2025, “aims to prevent unsupervised children from gaining ground on the products of the compression suspenders that surround the exterior of the legs of the pool,” the company press release.
The recall, published jointly by the CPSC and the Bestway, Intex and Polygroup, was made to ensure that the new modifications are applied to “all the swimming pools above the ground sold since 2002 which measure 48 inches or more height”, according to the press release.
Consumers are contacted to contact Bestway,, Intex And Polygroup For a free repair kit, which includes a rope used to maintain the structural integrity of the swimming pool. The recall number is 25-393.
