Burger Chain Five Guys returns the debt with a refinancing of £ 185 m | Money news

The five -guy burgering chain will announce this week a refinancing of 185 million pounds sterling while seeking to extend its European succession in a difficult climate for restaurant operators.

Sky News understands that Five Guys, which was launched in the United Kingdom in 2013, won a new five-year debt agreement with lenders, including the main British street banks.

Sources said the agreement should be announced on Wednesday.

Five guys are negotiated on nearly 180 sites in the United Kingdom, employing around 5,500 people.

It also operates under the same corporate property structure in France, Germany and Spain, its European operations by employing total around 9,000 people.

The European company is a 50-50 joint venture between Freston Ventures-Sir Charles Dunstone’s investment vehicle, co-founder of the carphone warehouse-and the Murrell family that founded five guys in the United States.

He should now seek to open a larger number of restaurants driving in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe.

In a statement published in Sky News, John Eckbert, five guys, director general of Europe, said: “The additional debt guarantee at a more favorable rate on the current market is an important achievement.

“This refinancing transaction of 185 million pounds sterling testifies to the strength of the Five Guys brand and our successful operational performance.

“The last capital injection will be decisive in the acceleration of our expansion strategy.”

The agreement occurs while hospitality groups warn against a growing challenge to survive following the tax increases announced in the Rachel Reeves budget in the last autumn, with channels such as rating now exploring urgent sales processes in order to guarantee new investments.
