The latest batch of coins from Queen Elizabeth II came into circulation across the United Kingdom, the Royal Mint announced.
More than 23 million pieces representing the end of the monarch are released alongside 7.5 million pieces of £ King Charles III.
The Royal Mint said that the last of the Queen’s parts, which are dated 2022, are the rarest parts of 1 £ in active circulation and will be the last portrait of Elizabeth II.
All the British parts representing the end of the Queen will remain in legal progress and in active circulation to allow a smooth transition and minimize the impact and the environmental cost.
The new parts will start to appear in pockets and boxes across the country in the coming weeks.
Until now, the pieces 50p and £ 1 have been the only denominations with the king’s portrait to have entered so far, after the introduction of his effigy on the British currency in 2023.
King’s coins 1 £ 1 – of which almost three million were published in August from last year – also have a complex bee design on the reverse.

There are approximately 24.7 billion coins in circulation across the United Kingdom, the king’s pieces representing only about 0.004% of them, which makes its new parts very desirable to collectors.
