The new English football watchdog reveals its inaugural at the beginning of next month despite a confrontation with the annual rally of the main European club association.
Sky News understands that the independent football regulator (IFR) invited the 116 clubs in the Premier League, the English football league and the National League to a meeting in Manchester on October 8.
The summit should involve IFR providing more details on a series of consultations reported in new legislation on issues, including a license regime for professional clubs and fans’ commitment.
IFR began to consult this month on a hardened check system for club owners, administrators and senior executives, in the midst of new concerns about the fate of clubs such as the Sheffield championship on Wednesday.
Sources have indicated that IFR had been informed that the date of the meeting had clashed with the General Assembly of the European Club Association in Rome, which should take place from October 7 to 9.
However, a source from Whitehall insisted that the IFR meeting would take place as planned, adding that the Premier League clubs were properly provided to be represented during the two events.
The invitations at the IFR top received a clarity on its leadership still sought.
David Kogan, the media executive, has been appointed government candidate to become president, but his appointment has not yet been officially ratified while the government’s treatment of the government remains exceptional.
Mr. Kogan, a former donor of work, nevertheless kept bilateral meetings with Premier League clubs and with larger groups of EFL clubs during the summer.
William Shawcross, a public appointment commissioner, said in June that he would examine the process and should have been returned in a few weeks.
Sky News revealed in July that Richard Monks, partner of the accounting firm EY who specializes in financial regulations, had been identified as the first director general of IFR.
The appointments of Mr. Kogan and Mr. Monks could be officially announced this month.
Among the powers of IFR, there will be the capacity to impose a financial settlement on the Premier League in relation to the distribution of money at the clubs of the lower league.
The creation of the regulator was promised by the last conservative government following the fury on the failure of the European Super League project in 2021.
His establishment is delivered with the higher level of the professional game still seized by the civil war, with Manchester City, made up of Abu Dhabi at the center of a major legal case with the Premier League on the club’s financial affairs.
A spokesperson for IFR refused to comment.
