The outgoing boss of the British Olympic Association will this week be appointed the new director general of one of the largest electronic commerce platforms in Europe for sports and outdoor enthusiasts.
Sky News has learned that Andy Anson, who will move next month as Team GB director, will join Sportscape Group, who has a “member community” of more than 25 million people.
Sportscape belongs to BD-Capital and BridgePoint, which merged their respective Sportpursuit and Privéportshop portfolio companies in 2022.
Before directing the BOA, Mr. Anson was Managing Director of Kitbag, who was then sold in Fanatics.
He is also a former sales manager of the Manchester United Football Club.
Sportscape is negotiated on the main markets, notably the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
“Sportscape has already established itself as a key player in the European sports electronic commerce landscape, and I can’t wait to work with the team to unlock their next growth phase,” Anson said in a statement published in Sky News.
Andy Dawson, co-founder and director of BD-Capital, said that Mr. Anson’s experience in world sports trade made him the right choice to direct the sports landscape.
Since his departure as a boss of the BOA has been announced during the summer, Mr. Anson had agreed to work with another company supported by BD, Science in Sport, by joining his board of directors.
His successor as head of the GB team has not yet been announced.
