Spotify is increasing the cost of its premium subscription in the UK, the Money blog has revealed.

Emails have started being sent to subscribers informing them that the cost of an individual subscription will increase from £11.99 to £12.99 per month.

This equates to an increase of 8.3%.

Spotify indicates that subscribers will benefit from a one-month grace period.

It announced earlier this year that prices would rise in various territories – but it was unclear whether this would include the UK.

The latest increase, also of £1, was introduced in spring 2024.

THE Money Blog has contacted Spotify for comment.

A statement on its website says: “We are updating our Premium pricing to ensure we can continue to innovate in changing market conditions and deliver the best audio content in the world.

“These changes help us continue to provide subscribers with a highly personalized experience and powerful discovery tools, continuing to provide value to our fans.”

Subscribers who do not wish to pay an extra £1 can cancel at any time before their next billing date.

Spotify’s student discount, for a £5.99 subscription, appears to be unchanged.

Spotify, based in Sweden, is considered the largest music subscription service in the UK, with 15.3 million subscribers, almost half the market.
