Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi revealed that he conducted an investigation with pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi before agreeing to marry his daughter to the fast bowler.
Speaking at the ‘Main Hoon Karachi’ session during the International Urdu Conference in the city, Shahid shared his thoughts on the decision-making process regarding his daughter Ansha’s marriage to the young peacemaker.
“No father hands over his daughter’s life to someone without careful thought. Shaheen’s upbringing was praiseworthy and even though our families lost touch after we moved to Karachi, Shaheen’s coaches always praised him,” the all-rounder said.
In response to a question about the inquiry, the former Ghazal stressed its importance, saying: “It is necessary to ensure compatibility for a successful relationship, and both partners must contribute to building a strong future generation.”
Shahid jokingly rejected suggestions about him bearing the title of grandfather, adding: “Maybe after my younger daughter gets married and has children, I will think about it.”
The former cricketer is the father of five daughters and Ansha, who is married to Shaheen, is his second child.
The couple married in a ceremony held in 2023. The nikah was celebrated in February at a local mosque in Karachi, and they celebrated their marriage months later in September of the same year.
Shaheen and Ansha welcomed their firstborn son, Aliyar, in August 2024.
Meanwhile, Shahid’s eldest daughter Al-Aqsa is also married.
