The third and final T20I match between Pakistan and South Africa was called off without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain at the Wanderers Stadium on Saturday.

The match officials could not even draw the toss due to rain, resulting in South Africa dominating the series as they emerged victorious in both the T20Is previously played against Pakistan.

The Proteas defeated the Green Shirts by 11 runs in the first T20I at Kingsmead as the latter could only score 172 runs in their 20 overs at the loss of eight wickets in their chase of 184.

Skipper Mohammad Rizwan’s 74 runs off 62 balls could not push Pakistan over the line in pursuit of the target of 184 runs. Saim Ayoub scored 31 fast balls from 15 balls.

Although the match ended in disappointment for Pakistan, the team had two more matches to come back in the series but they lost the second T20I as well on 13 December.

The Green Shirts posted a massive target of 207 runs for the loss of five wickets thanks to Saim’s fiery 98 off 57 deliveries but were unable to contain the fireworks of Reeza Hendricks and Rassie van der Dussen which saw the Proteas take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

South Africa had a shaky start with the early dismissals of Ryan Rickleton and Matthew Bretzke, but Hendricks and Der Dussen helped the hosts to the line by losing just three wickets with 117 off 63 balls and 66 not out off 38 deliveries, respectively. .

The Rizwan-led visiting team will now take on South Africa in the three-match ODI series starting December 17 at Boland Park.

ODI series schedule:

December 17, 1st ODI at Boland Park.

December 19, 2nd ODI at Newlands Cricket Ground.

December 22, 2nd ODI at Wanderers Stadium.
