India defeated Pakistan by nine wickets in the first Group A match of the Asian Cricket Council’s Women’s Under-19 T20 Asia Cup at the Baymas Oval Cricket Ground on Sunday.
The Zoofishan Ayyaz-led national team chose to bat first after winning the toss and scored just 67 runs on the scoreboard with the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs.
Wicket-keeper Komal Khan was the top scorer with 32 balls and 24, hitting four boundaries.
Meanwhile, the Young Women in Green managed just one wicket, taken by Fatima Khan, in the second over.
For India, Sonam Yadav took four wickets for six runs in four overs, helping her side dominate the green shirts and restrict them to a meager total.
While batting, India chased down the target conceded by Pakistan in just 7.5 overs, for the loss of just one wicket.
Left-handed batsman J Camileni scored an unbeaten 44 off 29 balls for the side, with the help of four fours and three sixes, while Sanika Chalk scored 19 runs.
After a disappointing loss, Pakistan are now scheduled to face Nepal on Monday in the second match of the tournament. The match will start at two o’clock in the afternoon local time.
Besides the Women in Green, India and Nepal have been placed in the first group, while the second group includes Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka.
The six-team tournament will be played in a T20 format, with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the Super-Four stage.
The Super Four stage matches will be held on December 19 and 20, while the final is scheduled to be held on December 22.
According to the tournament system, additional matches will be held to determine fifth and sixth places, as well as third and fourth places, on December 18 and 22, respectively.
