ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet on Wednesday rejected the National Assembly’s participation in the salary package of all individuals associated with Pakistani cricket teams, stating that the information is of a sensitive and confidential nature in essence.

In its response during the Question Hour, the Cabinet Division requested that physical records maintained by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) be reviewed or examined on camera to ensure confidentiality and protect sensitive details.

In response to a question from Asia Naz Tanuli, the Cabinet Division stated that to prevent unnecessary public controversy and negative exploitation of sensitive and confidential information related to PCBs in the media, it said: “We hereby make a humble request to the MNA requesting that the process be narrowed down.” Research information and review physical records held by the PCB board or examine them with a camera to ensure confidentiality and protect sensitive details.

The Cabinet stated that the PCB uses a range of factors to determine remuneration for players, coaches and support staff, as follows:

PCB Budget: PCB’s annual budget and funds available for player and staff bonuses.

Central contract categories: Players are classified into A, B and C based on their performance, experience and rankings, which determines the monthly match fee and match fee.

However, the Cabinet said that although the Pakistan cricket team’s performance has faced challenges in maintaining consistent results against leading teams, it cannot be denied that great strides have been made in recent years.

He stated that the significant financial investments directed towards improving infrastructure, training facilities and player development programs demonstrate a clear commitment to raising the team’s profile on the international stage.

He added that cricket is a dynamic sport where performance depends not only on investment but also on long-term strategies, adaptability to changing circumstances, and mental flexibility.
