The southpaw batsman has moved up three places to sixth with 764 PIR after his impressive knock of 84 runs in the first Test against South Africa. However, not all the news was positive for Pakistani cricketers.
Captain Babar Azam, despite passing a half-century in the same Test, fell two places to 17th with 669 points. Wicket-batsman Mohammad Rizwan and all-rounder Salman Ali Agha also saw declines, falling to 21st and 23rd positions respectively.
Abdullah Shafiq, who opened the match out of form, dropped to 51st place, while Shan Masoud maintained 57th place.
In the bowling classification, Pakistani Noman Ali fell to ninth place, while Shaheen Afridi fell to eighteenth place.
Mohammad Abbas, who made his six-wicket return against South Africa, is ranked 23rd, while Naseem Shah has moved up six places to 33rd.
Meanwhile, Indian stars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma suffered a major drop in rankings after poor performances in the ongoing series against Australia. Kohli, who had scores of 36 and 5, dropped to 24th, while Rohit dropped to 40th.
Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 82-run knock pushed him to fourth in the world rankings, while Nitish Kumar Reddy’s maiden century saw him jump to 53rd.
Australian Steve Smith rose to seventh place after successive centuries, while Englishman Joe Root continued to lead the rankings.
In the bowling classification, Indian Jasprit Bumrah reached his highest level in his career with 907 points, while Australian Pat Cummins jumped to third place, and his colleague Josh Hazlewood advanced to second place.
South African Kagiso Rabada dropped to fourth place, while Marko Janssen rose six places to fifth place, after an outstanding performance in Centurion against Pakistan.
