In his first season, silo It was a series centered around unraveling the mystery. In the end, this mystery was solved. So what’s left to do? silo In its second season?
The first episode of silo Season 2, titled “The Engineer,” takes this idea literally. Most of its runtime is spent watching our main character use her engineering skills to build a bridge. She’s alone in the dark all hour. There’s no one to talk to, nothing to say. It’s all about Juliet, who puts the horror of what she’s learned out of her mind by focusing on something she can control: solving a simple engineering problem.
With the mystery solved, to keep the audience interested, now silo Something must be built.
First, Season 2 picks up where the last season left off, with Juliet outside her hermitage. She suits up and explores the devastation on the surface. The former sheriff has mentally accepted the truth: she was wrong, and the rooftop is a scene from hell.
Now, her main mission is to survive, and she knows that in this environment, she will not last long. Fortunately, Juliet got extra time by repairing the damaged thermal tape on her suit, in Season 1. Although it was repaired, the suit would not last long.
Juliet makes her way to another silo, one with a darker history than her own. Everyone who lived there died, killed when they convinced themselves it was safe to go out. Now, to keep herself alive, Juliet must climb over their rotting corpses to reach their now empty but safe home.
Inside this silo, in the dark, Juliet finds a broken bridge. On the other side there is light and sound. To find out what it is, she will have to cross the chasm. Once they do that, they will need a way to get back.
And so, our born reformer goes to work on reform by building a bridge.
And while it works, it also builds silo The future as a TV series. If you’ve read the Hugh Howey books on which this story is based, you know where to go. Now for us, the audience, the connection that will keep us coming back won’t be a mystery, now solved, but a question of whether or not Juliet can make something useful out of what she knows.
It’s a bold start to the show’s second season. The series risks an episode with only one character, limited dialogue, and nothing but silent shadows.
silo He pulls it off brilliantly, mixing silence and darkness with flashbacks and relying on Rebecca Ferguson’s performance. She’s still one of the best actresses on stream.
silo Season 2 has been a long wait. If this first episode is any indication, expect it to be better than the first.
If you haven’t watched silo However, it is not too late to start. Seasons 1 and 2 are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
