The chairman of the British competition regulator has been dismissed by the government, in a context of promoting growth.
Marcus Bokkerink, the head of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), has been dismissed from his post by the company secretary.
Chancellor Rachel Reeves met with regulators last week to impress upon them the central role of economic growth in their activities.
The CMA is overseeing negotiations and briefly suspended the high-profile merger of Microsoft and gaming giant Activision-Blizzard.
A government source told Sky News: “This is a sign that we are serious about changing the culture of regulation in order to achieve growth. The government wants to show that it takes investment seriously.
The removal of the CMA chief comes as Ms Reeves and business secretary Jonathan Reynolds, who made the decision, arrived in Davos to woo foreign investors at the annual World Economic Forum.
