Jude Law seems to be one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood… he’s had quite a few roles, and to his credit, he makes each one very different from the ones that came before it. For example, he played a surprise villain in the hit movie Captain Marvel. Jude Law is proud of the Marvel villain he brought to life, but he has some regrets: “I wish he had allowed me to have more fun with the role,” he said in a recent interview with Variety.
Before expressing his remorse, Jude Law expressed how much he enjoyed playing villain Yon-Rogg, saying, “For me, this was the pinnacle of Marvel.” Regarding the studio, he noted that “I don’t think there was much more they could get” from his character-turned-teacher. However, he “wanted to lean more into the humor,” and went on to explain how he wished he had played the character differently and how uncomfortable his goofy costume was.
While Jude Law confirmed this Captain Marvel “It was a really good experience,” he went on to describe exactly how he thought his character could have been portrayed with more humor. “I wanted it to be more arc,” he said. This actually makes sense, as the Yon-Rogg we saw on screen seemed to have exactly two gears: a stern teacher and a screaming jerk.
Far from the changes Jude Law wanted to make to him Captain Marvel character, he also had a complaint common to many MCU stars: that the costumes they had to wear were too uncomfortable. “These suits are difficult to move because they are made of thick rubber,” he said. His future costume would probably be uncomfortable no matter what, but he went on to describe how the discomfort was heightened by his stunt training.
“You go to stunt camp for two months, where you do all this fight training and learn to do all this stuff,” he said. Once Jude Law donned his Marvel duds, he realized that the thick rubber costume was hindering his flexibility: “I can’t touch my toes!” Before filming, this left him with a troubling question: “How am I going to do all these things with this thing?”
Jude Law’s struggles with the Marvel costume had a happy ending: “You figure it out,” he said. It’s hard to deny that he learned his way around this rubber suit well, leading to some memorable fight scenes Captain Marvel. While he returned through flashbacks in the past Wondersthe extreme discomfort of the costume may explain why we won’t see Yon-Rogg appear in the future. If Law decides to return, his character could be a fun wildcard as the MCU continues to explore its cosmic boundaries.
Although we really enjoyed the movie, Jude Law’s complaints about his character in Captain Marvel ring true…other villains like Loki and Agatha proved that villains in the MCU can be a threat while still being very funny. Of course, given the historical failure Wondersthe odds of his character returning to the big screen seem slimmer than ever. With rumors of a Marvel reboot just around the corner, it’s always possible that the return of Law’s memorably misogynistic heel could be closer than any of us realize.
