The number of buyers for the first time increased by almost a fifth last year, according to Halifax data.
The bank said that 2024 had seen 341,068 people buy their first properties, up 19% compared to 2023.
Although the figures are a rebound in the drop of 22% of 2023, they are not as high as in 2022.
That year, 367,870 buyers for the first buyers.
Amanda Bryden, responsible for the mortgages of the bank, said that the increase “probably reflects an improvement in mortgage affordability as interest rates relax and stabilize, which gives more certainty to those who accelerate the scale ”.
Earlier this month, the Bank of England Reduce interest rates to 4.5% – A drop from another percentage point for the third consecutive period.
Halifax said that on average, the first buyers are 33 years old – two years more than ten years ago – and that the average deposit paid was £ 61,090 for a house generally valued at £ 311,034.
The bank also said that people riding on the property scale represented more than half of all purchases of houses made with a mortgage last year, at 54%.
Ms. Bryden added that “many always join for the figures to work, most of the houses purchased together”, which “makes sense” given the average deposit and the price of houses.
She said that these prices “can be a section for those who have one income”, and that: “It is not surprising that the average buyer is now 33 years old, the oldest of the last two decades.”
However, while Halifax is expecting a “modest growth in house prices” this year, Ms. Bryden said: “Reductions of upcoming stamp thresholds will not facilitate short -term things for new buyers.”
