THE World Health Organization published new discoveries on Friday on a lack of “alarming” awareness of alcohol bond cancer Through Europe and called for clear and prominent tobacco style warnings in the region with the heaviest drinkers in the world.

Alcohol causes 800,000 deaths across Europe each year, but just a fraction of the population is aware of the risks, said the WHO office in Europe. His study revealed that only 15% of respondents knew that alcohol can cause breast cancer and 39% were aware of its link with colon cancer.
“Although cancer is the main cause of death attributable to alcohol in the European Union (EU), public awareness of the link between alcohol and cancer remains alarming,” said darkness.

Currently, only three of the 27 EU countries – France, Lithuania and Germany – have a form of warning labels, WHO said. Ireland provides broader warnings on alcoholic drinks cancer from May 2026, he said.
