Salman Nasser, CEO of PSL, said on Thursday that the Pakistan Premier League hoped to expand from six to eight teams after the 2025 season.
It was organized for the first time in 2016 in the United Arab Emirates due to security concerns, PSL is now hosted in Pakistan, aiming to enhance its commercial attractiveness and competitiveness.
The planned expansion comes in a major commercial turn for PSL, with the rights of the media and care for sale.
The PSL 2026 will also build new cities with Peshawar set to host its first exhibition game, which is a step towards full PSL matches. The cup will also start its first tour in the country, bringing the event to the unpaid cities.
“By the end of this year, we may get two other teams,” Nasser told local media on Thursday.
“We started at a time when cricket was not happening in Pakistan. The challenge was to return it.
“Now that we have succeeded in returning the cricket game to the traditional centers, the next step is expanding beyond these four cities (Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Moltan).”
The PSL window from January to February is now facing a competition from SA20 in South Africa and the international state in the United Arab Emirates T20, where its value depends on the post -season data as the rights for sale rises.
“This year will be an interesting test, and with more difference, we expect a larger window,” added Naser.
“Some of our rights rise to the evaluation after this PSL. It depends a lot on the data we collect.”
The 2025 version is scheduled to start on April 11. Islamabad United holders is the most successful PSL team with three titles.
