Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo once again made headlines after his country’s 5-1 win over Poland, securing its place in the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
With this victory, Ronaldo (39 years old) celebrated his 132nd international victory, surpassing his former Real Madrid teammate Sergio Ramos, who has 131 victories with the Spanish national team.
However, shortly after his on-pitch win, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner spoke about his retirement plans to reporters in a post-match chat.
“I just want to enjoy (myself),” he said. “Are you planning to retire? If that happens, in a year or two… I don’t know. I’ll be forty soon.”
“I really want to have fun, as long as I feel motivated I will keep going. The day I don’t feel motivated, I will quit.”
The Al-Nasr striker also stated that he has no intention of pursuing a coaching career and is open to exploring other avenues after retiring from professional football.
“I don’t see myself managing a team, and that’s not in my plans,” he said. “My future lies in other areas outside of football, although time will tell what happens.”
After its landslide victory over Poland, Portugal is scheduled to play its final match in the group stage of the Nations League against Croatia on Monday.
However, the team will be without its star striker, who left the national team to join Al-Nasr Saudi Club, which plays in the Saudi Professional League.
