If the worst dressed celebrities at the 2023 CMA Awards are to be believed, some constructive criticism can go a long way. Countless country music stars achieve success every year, demonstrating that self-expression can mean more than just conforming to high fashion. One of the standouts this year was Lainey Wilson, one of the hosts, who opened the show wearing a sparkly pinstripe suit alongside co-hosts Luke Bryan and Peyton Manning. She’s just one of many country music stars who truly owned the event.
Unfortunately, the many fashion successes weren’t enough to overshadow the worst-dressed celebrities at the 2024 CMA Awards.
Teddy Swims’ look missed the mark
Teddy Swims was one of the many artists who rocked the stage at the 2024 CMA Awards. Unfortunately, his big night got off to a bad start when he walked the red carpet alongside his collaborator, Thomas Rhett, wearing a oversized striped zippered shawl. And while we appreciate Swim’s attempt to take inspiration from the old Western aesthetic, the look is just…a lot. Swims’ shiny black leather pants only add to the gaudy side of the outfit, although we really like her fringed black cowboy hat. Hey, it adds character!

Dustin Lynch should have chosen a different color
Dustin Lynch turned the CMA red carpet into a family affair by bringing his mother, Patti Lynch, as his date. And even though it would get a 10 if this was a competition for good sons, well, it’s not. As you can see, Dustin got a little Also matchy-matchy when choosing your look for the event. While the structure of Dustin’s ultra-tailored suit definitely complements his trim figure, the head-to-toe brown is a little too much on the eyes. Unfortunately, the white T-shirt underneath doesn’t provide enough contrast. But her boots are beautiful!
Kacey Musgraves is too perfect for this dress
Kacey Musgraves is so gorgeous it almost feels like I’m criticizing her. However, the “Three Little Birds” singer showed up to the CMAs in a dress that, well, definitely didn’t show off her beauty. If she had only worn the fitted blue dress with thin straps that seemed to be drowned in crystals, we might have appreciated the vision, even if it would have been a little disappointing in itself. However, she definitely lost major points for the matching blue feathered shawl that should never have seen the light of day.
Paul Wight didn’t even try
Paul Wight is a wrestler who dabbled in acting, so maybe he shouldn’t be held to the same standards as musicians attending the Country Music Association Awards. After all, it’s not exactly his element. That said, we couldn’t ignore the complete lack of effort put into her red carpet ensemble. Despite being surrounded by a sea of colorful, festive outfits, Wight showed up wearing a white shirt and black blazer over jeans. You know, the same look you might find walking through any mall in the country.

Neither does Keith Urban.
We love Keith Urban and his catchy country tune, so he doesn’t need to be a trendsetter. And yet, seeing him put no effort into his red carpet look is beyond disappointing — especially since as a highly decorated country music star, the awards are definitely coming. are his thing. And yet, he decided to show up in an equally boring look consisting of black pants, a black shirt, and a black denim jacket. It seems that he tent to liven things up by choosing a jacket with a wool lining, but honestly, it feels like he was just cold. After all, the awards ceremony took place in Nashville!
Shaboozey chose the worst shade of green
Look, Shaboozey (who got his stage name in a super cool way), can basically do no wrong in our eyes. Well, so far that is the case. You see, the “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” crooner, who performed his hit song on the big stage for the first time this year, arrived at the big event wearing a mint green suit adorned with black appliques. We’re not sure where this shade of green fits into the fashion canon, but it certainly didn’t work for the CMAs. Additionally, the costume would have benefited from another round of stitching.
Kimberly Schlapman tried to do too much
The CMAs may not exactly be synonymous with high fashion, but we always appreciate it when a star goes above and beyond. Enter Little Big Town crooner Kimberly Schlapman, whose CMA look may be the result of a little too much ambition. Even though her strapless white dress fit her like a glove, she probably would have had to flip a coin to decide whether to opt for the huge black bow sitting across her bust or the 3D black spots littering the dress. We might have deleted the latter and kept the arc, but that’s just us.
Jenee Fleenor definitely overdid it
Jenee Fleenor, who was nominated for Musician of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards, almost did things right, but she made a glaring mistake. You see, Fleenor lost her category to Charlie Worsham and, unfortunately, she also made no progress in the unofficial fashion awards. For what? Well, by showcasing her long-sleeved, ankle-length dress with a heavy white outline (along with the matching cowboy hat), she transformed what could have been a totally elegant and classic look into… well… That. Well, at least she has her dazzling smile!

Freddie Freeman’s look was too basic
Freddie Freeman is one of the many athletes who have come forward to support country music’s most talented. However, that certainly wasn’t reflected in her outfit at the CMA Awards. You see, the MLB star showed up to the event dressed in just A little less casual than during baseball practice. As you can see, Freeman posed for photos on the red carpet wearing a simple all-gray look consisting of a matching shirt and pants. Lacking any visible buttons aside from those on his cuffs, the look fell flat even in the most basic settings. Bonus points for the slightly interesting design of his collar, though.
