Arena Sabalinka number one world-level fighting in the second group by Coco Gauf to secure 6-3 7-6 (3) victory and had a third Madrid open on Saturday, where the leading winner won her third title this year in the WTA tour.
Sabalinka, who played the last three WTA 1000 finals, is equivalent to Petra Kvitova’s records in three titles in Madrid Open. It also occurred with Gauff in face to face, with five wins each after 10 meetings.
“I always enjoy fighting against you, you are a fighter,” Sabalinka told Gauff at the presentation ceremony after she won her sixth consecutive match against the 10 best opponents of this year.
“I am very happy because I managed to win this year.”
The dominant Sabalinka won four straight matches without giving up a point to build 4-1 in the first group. Although the former US Open Champion Jouf was suspected with a break to make him 4-2, the Belarusians got the group with another break.
Gauff Sabalenka broke up 2-1 in Group Two and held under pressure to build 5-3. But the double Gauff errors during the service of the group allowed the sabalenka to retreat and make it 5-5 before winning the title in the tie run.
“You are always difficult to face … congratulations on all the success you are,” Jouf told Sabalenka.
“I hope to return to this position next year.”
