Islamabad: The Pakistani Hockey Federation (PHF) was vocal for its financial restrictions that hinder its participation in international competitions.
However, according to a letter from PHF itself, the union carries a bank balance of millions of rupees.
Reliable sources indicate that PHF requested government funds to cover the total expenses, which reached $ 51,296 to live in a hotel in Kuala Lumpur during “CUP FIH HOCKEY MEN’s Nations CUP 2025.”. This request was submitted despite the federation’s large bank reserves.
In response, the Pakistani Sports Council (PSB) took the initiative to arrange the air tickets for the participation of the national team in this event only.
Later, PHF informed the Pakistani Sports Council that he had requested money to establish hotels in its account, as it seeks to transfer the foreign currency to the aforementioned payment from the Ministry of Finance and the State Bank in Pakistan.
It is worth noting that over the past two years, PSB has spent a large amount of 119.667 million rupees to PHF.
PSB sources said that despite many written reminders, the Union failed to provide any auditable financial accounts. Thus, at the meeting of the Board of Directors held in December 2024, PSB decided to block any additional financing to ensure PHF financial transparency.
The sources reveal that PSB collected a detailed report on this issue and referred it to the Ministry of Coordination between provinces for more high -level deliberations.
When calling DG PSB Yasir Pirzada, he refused to comment on PHF affairs, however, he said that PSB now decided only those federations that will provide full details of the audited account will be provided with funding.
He said: “We have linked the funding to the performance of federations and checking the funds already provided. No new money will be issued to any union until the previously allocated money record is provided.”
The former union faced serious allegations of corruption that led to the start of the investigation by the FBI.
In February this year, a group of Olympics demanded the federal government to follow up on FIA’s investigation to obtain a logical result.
The Olympic Nasser Ali, Aiz Mahmoud, Khaled Bashir, called for Kalim Allah and others during their press interview in Islamabad in February to an early conclusion of the investigation by FIA.
Olympians claimed that PHF from 2008 to 2024 received more money from the fund he received from 1947 to 2008. FIA investigates 113 PHF reviews of 1.25 billion rupees.
