Rachel Reeves will underline the need for “hard work paired by a fair reward” when she reveals the plans of a “youth guarantee” to drive out unemployment.

It should confirm the plans for each young person who has received a universal credit (UC) for 18 months without “winning or learning” to guarantee a paid labor offer.

Those who refuse to take jobs without “reasonable excuse” will face sanctions such as the loss of their advantages, this is understood.
The guarantee, which will be supervised by the Secretary of Labor and Pensions, Pat McFadden, is part of a commitment of “nothing less than the abolition of long -term young people unemployment“.
Mrs Reeves should say: “I believe in a Britain based on contribution – where we do our duty for each other, and where hard work is equal by a fair reward.
“I believe in a Britain based on the opportunity – where ordinary children can flourish, without hindrance by their history.
“And I believe that the true wealth of Great Britain is not only in the success of a few lucky people, but in the talents of all our people, in all the parts of our great country.”

Ms. Reeves should add: “We will not leave a generation of young people to languish without prospects – denied dignity, security and the opportunity scales that good work offers.
“Like the last Labor government, with its new agreement for young people, has abolished long -term youth unemployment, I can engage this government less than the abolition of long -term young people.
“We have already done it and we will go back to it again.”

Sir Mel Stride, the Chancellor of the Shadow, accused the Labor Party of “contradictions” in their policies.
He said: “Rachel Reeves says that she wants to abolish unemployment for young people – but in her very first budget, she presented a employment tax of 25 billion pounds sterling which made more expensive for companies to hire, especially young people.
“It is the contradiction at the heart of the work plan: they speak of opportunity, but their policies kill jobs.
“Since work has come to power, unemployment has risen. Business confidence is decreasing. And now Reeves tries to solve a problem she has created – while pointing the finger of the blame, as she does so often, to everyone. ”
